ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The men's soccer team kept pace with first place Fontbonne on Wednesday night but conceded an early goal that they couldn't match as the Panthers lost 1-0.

Fontbonne held the edge in possession, outshooting Greenville 21-9. Greenville's Jordan York had three shots, two on goal. Both of Peter Plakorus' shots were on goal.

Goalkeeper Thomas Crown came up with a match-high eight saves as his record dropped to 7-6-1.

"It was a disappointing night," said head coach Chris Swift. "We came in knowing that we had the conference championship in our hands, and it hurts to let it slip away."

"Fontbonne was very well organized, and they took their chance. We were dangerous on set pieces and there were a couple of times I thought we had our goal. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be on the night."

"We have to recover because we have three very important games left to make sure we get into the conference tournament."

Greenville (9-7-1, 4-2 SLIAC) sits in fourth place currently and holds the tiebreaker over fifth place Spalding should the standings end in a tie. The Panthers host Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Greenville's Homecoming match.
