Men's Soccer Falls in Semi-Finals

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- The Panthers traveled to Columbia, Mo. to take on the No.  1 seed, Westminster Blue Jays in the SLIAC Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not pull off the upset and lost 4-1.

Greenville's Aaron Mulholland scored the only Panther goal of the match. The senior captain found the back of the net in the second minute of the game and brought GC up 1-0 early. Westminster tied the game in the 24th minute, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie at halftime.

The second half stayed at a tie until the 62nd minute when Westminster's Drew Cook scored on a breakaway. The Blue Jays would score two more goals, one in the 70th and another in the 85th minute, to bring the final score to 4-1 Westminster and eliminating GC from the tournament.

After the game, GC head coach, Chris Swift had a few words to say:

"We came out ready to play and got the early lead, and had them on the ropes. We had chances to score the 2nd goal, and in that game the 2nd goal was always going to be important. Once they scored, they settled down. I thought we came out strong again in the second half, and when they scored it took us a little while to settle back in, but I thought we composed ourselves and started to get back into it, until Jaycox hit an absolute worldy. By far the best goal scored in any of our games this season, and if that wasn't their goal of the season, I would love to see the goal that bested it. After that, we opened the game up trying to get back in, and they got the fourth. Fair dues to Westminster, the best team on the day won."
