Men's basketball pulls into SLIAC first place tie

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team received 24 points from Shane Smith and held on as they defeated first place MacMurray 124-123 on Saturday in Greenville. The Panthers have rebounded from ninth place to reach first place after winning eight of their last nine conference contests.

Greenville had seven players reach double figures in the scoring column as their number two man was Michael Hohm with 18 points. Hohm was followed by Kenny Greene with 16, DeAndre Brown with 13, Andrew Scott with 11, and Daniel Saeli and Jamal Daniels with 10.

The Panthers led by as many as 33 points in the second half, but MacMurray wouldn't give up as they showed why they are a top team in the conference.

Greenville led 73-53 at halftime.

Tim Daniel and Smith were team leaders with eight rebounds each.

Johari Dix contributed five assists, and Hohm added four steals.

With the win, the Panthers have pulled to one game under .500 with a 10-11 overall record and 9-5 SLIAC mark. They return to the hardwood on Wednesday at Fontbonne at 8 p.m.
