LeTourneau Sweeps Softball in Spring Break Starter

Published: April 13, 2021

IRVING, Tex. Perennial NCAA DIII powerhouse LeTourneau University dealt Greenville softball a 8-0, 8-2 sweep in Tuesday nights twin-bill, Spring Break opener in Texas.

In game one of the double-dip LeTourneau (7-7) dominated from first pitch and never offered an opening for the visiting Panther squad. LUs ace Taylor Thibodeaux delivered an impressive performance from the mound, serving up a five-inning no hitter. Thibodeaux struck out 13 of the 18 GC batters that she faced and surrendered zero hits in the 8-0 complete game shutout.

For the Panthers, senior righty Lindsey Schuberth was charged with the loss. Schuberth tossed four innings and only registered six earned runs, but received no run support from the club offensively.

Unfortunately for the Black & Orange the nightcap showcased much of the same result as the preceding contest as the women fell by a margin of 8-2. LU proved productive again at the dish, scoring eight runs on ten hits to outpace the Panthers.

Offensively sophomore standout Mattie Fairchild showed life at the plate for the GC squad going 1-for-3 at the place with a run scored.

Defensively it was senior Angela Sheets that was dealt the defeat on the mound pitching three innings with seven earned. Freshman transfer Jessica Laubecher relieved Sheets in the fourth and posted a helpful four-inning no hitter while notching a strikeout.

The Panthers drop to 0-6 after the night pair and will look to get back on track tomorrow as they wrap up the Texas portion of their eight-game road trip with a double header against LeTourneau and Dallas.
