GREENVILLE, Ill. The Greenville College softball team is joining hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in a national yearlong campaign entitled Beat Cancer with a Bat. The campaign invites softball teams around the country to commit to donating the proceeds of at least one game during their season to NFCR.

Greenville has committed proceeds from a doubleheader which will take place Monday, April 18, at3:15 p.m. and5:15 p.m. versus MacMurray College.

We are proud to take part in Beat Cancer with a Bat and make a contribution to the fight against cancer, said Erica Ritter, Assistant Softball Coach at Greenville. This fundraiser is a great way for softball players and coaches to utilize our passion for the sport to help save lives. Its a powerful testament to the fact that anyone can help fight cancer just by being creative with their talents and getting involved.

The event will be held in support of breast cancer research, and there will be no admission charge. Donations will be welcomed at the gate, and a bake sale will be held at the game, from which all proceeds will be donated to NFCR. A silent auction for a pink softball helmet and a ball signed by the 2010-2011 team will also be featured at the event.

The team has already sold more than 160 t-shirts benefitting breast cancer research.
