Greenville College Announces New VP for College Advancement

Published: April 13, 2021

Scott Giffen has accepted the position of vice president for college advancement at Greenville College. Giffen brings with him leadership experience and an extensive background in fundraising. He will begin his new appointment with Greenville College on Feb. 1.

Giffen graduated from Greenville College in 1999 with a bachelors in business management and a minor in music (vocal performance). Giffen combined his business knowledge and love of music to serve as fundraising executive for a variety of performing arts organizations. He recently completed a three-year campaign contract with the Springfield Arts Collaborative, where he serves as executive vice president. He also works as senior consultant at Robert Swaney Consulting, where his clients include the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Chamber Players, Music for All, Inc., the Indiana Repertory Theatre and the San Antonio Symphony. Giffen previously worked as director of development for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and development director for Stages, St. Louis.

"The arts have always been my passion. I remember telling my wife long ago that there are only a few other passions for which I could raise money. Greenville College is at the top of my short list of passions, said Giffen. I am passionate about the unique transformational experience Greenville College provides, its wonderful approach to liberal arts education, and how it helps students see God's world in a new, intimate, and thoughtful way.

Giffen successfully passed all of his Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) examinations in 2004 on his initial attempt and earned re-certifications in 2007, 2010 and 2013. He completed New York Universitys masters seminar in Europe where he studied visual and performing arts administration. Giffen teaches courses as an adjunct professor at Drury University. He has served as guest lecturer and presenter at numerous schools, workshops and professional conferences.

Giffen received Greenville Colleges Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 2009, and he currently volunteers on the alumni board. Giffen is married to Greenville College alumna, Yvi Martin (Class of 01), an ordained United Methodist pastor serving at the Kings Way United Methodist Church in Springfield, Mo. They have one son, Ezekiel.

Yvi and I have supported the college philanthropically since we graduated, and I can't wait to invite others to join us and give other students the same or even better opportunity," said Giffen.
