Greenville College students received accolades at this years American Advertising Regional Award Competition celebrated in East Peoria on February 7. By days end, they came home with 11 prizes including eight Gold Awards, two Silvers and one Best of Show. This is the fourth year Greenville College students have entered the competition.

The regional event hosted by the Peoria Advertising Club is the first tier in a three-tier competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the nations oldest national advertising trade association. The Gold and Best of Show awardees will now advance to a district competition that features work from students in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. The American Advertising Awards are known by most creative professionals, explained Associate Professor of Digital Media Jessa Wilcoxen, who accompanied Assistant Professor Deloy Cole and eight students to the event. When students win, it helps their resumes rise to the top of the pile.

The event also exposes students to inspiring award-winning work by companies and advertising firms. It helps them see the range of possibilities in which they can apply their skills for different types of careers, said Wilcoxen.
