Football Remains Undefeated with 56-27 Victory Over Minnesota-Morris

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The football team saw their early season record improve to 2-0 (1-0 UMAC) as they handled Minnesota-Morris 56-27 at home Saturday afternoon.  Senior quarterback Brendan Chambers led Greenville’s attack as he piled up 132 rushing yards and 183 passing yards while accounting for four of Greenville’s seven touchdowns.

The Panthers and Cougars traded scores early, entering halftime with Greenville leading in a tight 28-20 contest.

In the second half, the Panther offense and defense took over, piling up 28 points and limiting Minnesota-Morris to a lone fourth quarter touchdown.

Greenville’s offense outgained the Cougars by over 200 yards in the game.  The Panthers ran for 365 yards and passed for 185 yards on the afternoon.

Nathan Butler opened Greenville’s scoring with a 15 yard touchdown reception from Chambers on the first possession of the game.

Early in the second quarter Shawn McKnight broke loose on a 46 yard scamper to let the Panthers regain the lead.  Less than three minutes later, Jacob Stull ran in an 11 yard touchdown, and Nicholas Newton closed Greenville’s first half scoring with a 45 yard touchdown reception from Chambers.

In the second half, Greenville scored four touchdowns as Chambers opened their scoring with a 23 yard touchdown run before McKnight closed the third quarter with a 6 yard run for a touchdown.

After Morris posted a touchdown of their own, Greenville closed the game with a 60 yard interception return touchdown by Richard Wilburn and a Chambers one yard touchdown run.

Nicholas Morrow and Anthony Everett led Greenville’s defensive efforts as they totaled six and five and a half tackles, respectively.

The Panthers return to action next Saturday at Eureka.
