Football Falls 51-13 in Season Opener

After a intense nine month off season the Greenville College Panthers (0-1) expected to play their best in the season opener. It was Millikin who showed up strong on Saturday defeating the Panthers 51-13.

The Big Blue (1-1) scored on their first possession and never looked back. In addition to that touchdown running back Tyler Roush had 105 yards on 8 carries including a 48 yard scamper.

It was JR QB Brendan Chambers who led the Panthers offense. Chambers was 13 for 23 throwing the ball for 144 with 1 touchdown and 1 INT. On the ground Chambers ran for 114 yards on 20 carries. SR WR Ryan Boezeman had the lone touchdown catch.

After the first score the Panther defense held strong for the rest of the quarter. It was the second quarter when the proverbial wheels fell off. It began with a 28 yard FG by Brettschneider. After a 28 yard touchdown pass from Holmes, LB Marquette Moore recovered a Panther fumble and ran it back 41 yards for a touchdown. The excitement form the Boezeman touchdown was short lived as Millikin ended the half with a 51 yard touchdown pass.

History was made during halftime. It was the debut of the Greenville College marching band.

After a third quarter Big Blue touchdown the Panthers had their second score of the day. FR WR Tre Lewis ran it in from 8 yards out. The PAT attempt was blocked.

Millikin finished the game with two more scores in the fourth quarter.

After the game Head Coach Ordell Walker tweeted, "EMAP is so close yet so far. I'm so exited for Monday and another chance to get better. A lot of good things on film."

Next week the Panthers kick off UMAC play when they host the College of St. Scholastica Saints.
