ELSAH, Ill. GC softball claimed their seventh win in eight games on Thursday as the Black & Orange dealt SLIAC foe Principia a decisive 6-3, 12-3 sweep in Elsah, Ill.

Taking both contests, the Panthers successfully opened SLIAC play 2-0 and moved their overall seasons record to 8-12. Junior infielder Angie Doherty shined in Elsah on Thursday, posting a 5-for-8 effort offensively in the afternoon twinbill. Doherty pounded the Principia pitching staff with two homeruns and five RBI while scoring five runs and avoiding strikeouts.

Drama ruled game ones 6-3 outcome as both squads headed into the sixth inning tied 0-0. Greenville added four runs in frame six while Principia answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to keep the contest close. A two run effort in the final stanza delivered GC the 6-3 win and set the tone for game two.

Freshman hurler Jessica Laubecher (4-1) snagged the win in the opener, pitching all seven innings with only three earned on eight hits with six strikeouts.

In game two the Panthers put on an offensive and defensive clinic, consistently controlling the game from the outset. Greenville never trailed in the seven-inning match and overwhelmed the host 12-3 in convincing fashion.

In the circle, senior Angela Sheets (3-1) earned her third win of the season with a complete game, five-hit performance.
