Baseball Wraps Up Spring Trip with Defeat

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The baseball team concluded their annual spring trip with a 9-5 loss to Eastern Connecticut State. Tim Osborne hit a two run home run in the defeat.

Eastern Connecticut State got on the board first with run in the top of the first, but Greenville tied the score when a Tyler Whitworth single was misplayed by the leftfielder and allowed Mitchell Cernek to score. Later in the inning, Jared Storment singled to left center, scoring Whitworth and giving the Panthers the lead.

Eastern Connecticut tied the game with a run in the top of the second and took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the third. Eastern added single tallies in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings.

Greenville cut the lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth on Osborne's second home run of the season.

The Panthers rallied with a run in the bottom of the ninth when Klayton Bunselmeyer's single was misplayed by the left fielder and allowed Jared Souhrada to score.

Derek Reckmann's record dropped to 1-2 with the loss. He pitched three innings and gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out two.

Whitworth went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Panthers (2-7) continue their season Friday afternoon at home against Illinois College in a 3 p.m. contest.
