Baseball Suffers 22-7 Setback Against McKendree

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville College baseball surrendered the final contest of their four-game homestand as NCAA DII McKendree University cruised past the Panthers 22-7 in Tuesday afternoons slugfest.

Freshman Dalton McFarland lead the Panthers efforts at the dish, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Junior right-fielder Cole Lawson also posted a noteworthy 2-for-3 effort at bat with a run scored.

On the mound it proved to be a tough day for the Black & Orange hurlers. GC was forced to use five arms and failed to throw a pitcher for than three innings against the bats of McKendree. Starting sophomore lefty Cody Hinterscher was dealt the loss, walking six of the ten batters he faced in the first with eight runs eventually earned.

The Bearcats of MU (3-9) sent 16 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring 11 runs. McKendree poured on the runs in the second, third, and fourth frames, eventually hammering their way to a 20-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Greenville (0-5) got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 20-2. McKendree answered in the top of the sixth, delivering a two-out, two-run double for a 21-2 lead. The Panthers plated a run in the bottom of the sixth before the Bearcats closed out their big offensive outburst with one more run in the seventh inning. The Panthers scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to account for the final 22-7 margin.

Greenville College baseball now sets their sights on Thursday, March 8s meeting with Rose Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind. which will kick-off the first of a 13-game road trip for the Panthers. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm and junior ace Derek Reckmann has been named the starter for the afternoon contest.
