Baseball Extends Winning Streak to Nine; Pounds MacMurray in Series Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. GC Baseball (17-18, 16-5 SLIAC) stretched their consecutive games won to nine on Tuesday while clinching the number three spot in the SLIAC standings and claiming the number two seed in next weeks conference tournament. The Panthers routed MacMurray convincingly 10-2, 16-2 in the double header.

On the mound in game one freshman Clint Lustig (2-0) picked up the win, tossing three innings with no earned and one hit to suffocate the Highlanders offense and help pace the Black & Orange to the 10-2 victory.

Kyle Hobar led the club at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore catcher Adam Wallace also turned in an impressive performance at the dish in the opener, going 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

In the capper Greenville exploded offensively in the early innings notching 12 runs through the second. GC eventually reached 16 runs in the seven-inning affair while only allowing two runs on two hits to MacMurray.

Freshman lefty Tyler Mitchell earned the win in game two, dealing three innings and surrendering only one hit while striking out four.

Belleville product Alex Quirin was the clubs offensive headliner in the win, batting 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

GC Baseball will next hit the diamond on Friday, May 6, as they prepare for SLIAC powerhouse Spalding, hosting the Golden Eagles in the first of the seasons three game set.
