Baseball Drops Pair to Wentworth

LEESBURG, Fla. -- The baseball team opened their Florida spring trip with a pair of losses to Wentworth. The Panthers dropped the first game 7-6 and lost the nightcap 6-2.

In game one, Wentworth rallied from a five run deficit to complete a comeback as the Panther pitchers issued seven walks and two hit batsmen.

The Panthers jumped out to a three run first inning lead and then added two runs in the top of the second. Wentworth rallied with two runs in the third, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Tim Osborne and Jared Storment had two hits in game one with Osborne adding a run scored and Storment picking up an RBI.

Tyler Mitchell pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on three hits and six walks while striking out four. Nick Bifano picked up the loss as he permitted two Wentworth runs to cross the plate by giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits and one hit batsmen.

In game two, the Wentworth bats picked up a first inning run, two apiece in the third and fourth innings, and a single run in the seventh as they led 6-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.

Greenville rallied, pushing across two runs and ending the game with the tying run at the plate.

Osborne had two hits for Greenville. Mitchell Cernek and Dylan Bone each added an RBI.

Derek Reckmann opened the game on the mound for Greenville and gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked two, struck out one, and allowed two wild pitches in picking up the loss.

The Panthers (2-2) resume their trip Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. ET as they face Franklin and Marshall at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
