Baseball Closes in on SLIAC Tournament Berth with Win at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. -- The baseball team went to Eureka on Tuesday, April 30, to end their season series against Eureka. The Panthers took the first two games earlier in the year, and beat Eureka again in this contest 9-6.

Greenville started the game will with a first inning score, but Eureka answered with a run of their own the following inning. Jared Souhrada and Tim Osborne helped the Panthers score four in the third inning with RBI singles, and Greenville added two more runs on sacrifices.

The score was 5-3 at the beginning of the sixth inning and by the end of the sixth Greenville was ahead 9-4. Scoring in this inning was highlighted by another Souhrada RBI single. A late scoring run in the ninth inning would not be enough for Eureka to make a comeback.

Tyler Pilcher pitched the first six innings for Greenville and threw four strikeouts.

Mitchell Cernek had three hits, three runs scored, and three stolen bases.

Greenvilles season record is 19-18, and their conference record is 16-8. The Panthers have only a three game series against Principia remaining for regular season play, which they start on Friday, May 2, at Principia.
