Author Howard A. Snyder to Speak at College Convocation

Greenville College begins its 2016-17 academic year with a convocation ceremony on Wednesday, August 31, at 9:30 a.m. in Whitlock Music Center. Renowned author and Greenville College alumnus Dr. Howard A. Snyder will deliver a message titled Jesus and the Earth.

The event is free and open to the public.

Snyder is the author of more than two-dozen books about the power and relevance of Jesus Christ and his Kingdom for the world today and tomorrow. They include the classic bestsellers The Problem of Wineskins (1975) and The Community of the King (1977) and updated versions of each (Radical Renewal: The Problem of Wineskins Today (2005) and The Community of the King, revised and expanded edition, 2004).

Other titles include Decoding the Church: Mapping the DNA of Christs Body (2011) and Salvation Means Creation Healed: The Ecology of Sin and Grace: Overcoming the Divorce Between Earth and Heaven (2011). This year, seniors enrolled in CORE 401 will use the latter book as their primary text.

Snyders most recent books include Jesus and Pocahontas (2015), a study in history, mission, and culture; Small Voice, Big City: The Challenge of Urban Mission (2016) and Rooted in Mission: The Founding of Seattle Pacific University,18911916 (2016).

Snyder also blogs on various topics.

Currently, Dr. Snyder serves as visiting director of the Manchester Wesley Research Centre in Manchester, England. He previously served as Professor of Wesley Studies at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (20072012), and also as Professor of the History and Theology of Mission in the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky (19962006).

Snyder has also taught at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio; North Park Theological Seminary, Chicago; and Wheaton College Graduate School in Illinois. Snyder has pastored in Chicago, Detroit, and So Paulo.

He is an ordained elder in the Ohio Conference of the Free Methodist Church. He and his wife Janice reside in Wilmore, KY. They have four married children and 13 grandchildren.

Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school serving approximately 1,400undergraduate and graduate students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
