A Year of Adventures for World Outreach and Missions

The World Outreach and Missions Department of Greenville College wrapped up another successful year in December. The department, which promotes service and learning beyond campus and around the world, facilitated mission trips, study abroad experiences and close-to-home service projects in 2016.

Highlights of the years adventures include:

  • NINE partner organizations collaborating with students on service projects and trips: Students International in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Nicaragua; Institutio Evanglico in the Dominican Republic; Iglesia Luz y Vida in Spain; Agape International Scholars; ReachGlobal; Avance Ministry; One Way Ministry; City Lights; and the Community Activity Center
  • EIGHT countries where GC students served: the Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Haiti, Malawi.
  • FIVE major service projects undertaken by students: Mana after-school program; Refugio Safe House Ministry; Urban Plunge; New Orleans support/rebuilding; Sitios de Ministerio in Masaya.
  • FIVE destinations for study-abroad through GC and through the Best Semester program: Spain, Nicaragua, France, Nashville, Los Angeles.

World Outreach and Missions also reports robust student involvement with local ministry The Simple Room:

  • 90 GC student volunteers throughout the year,
  • 12 GC students in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program,
  • 10 new youth from the local community attending Simple Room programming, and
  • 4 new activities hosted by GC students: a campus Mosaic event, a tennis day, Rec Center gym day, and a Christmas party.
