RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The men's soccer team saw their 2011 season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to No. 8 Dominican (IL) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Stars possessed the ball for the majority of the first half of the contest as they outshot Greenville 14-2 in the first 45 minutes of play and pushed across their lone first half goal at the end of the 23rd minute.
The second half showed marked improvement for the Panther offense which posted six shots to Dominican's seven. The squads were also even with three corner kicks per side in the second period.
Unlike the Panthers, Dominican made the most of the second half opportunities they had. A flurry of three goals during a span of 15 minutes in the second half sealed their victory.
The Stars peppered Greenville goalkeeper Nathan Haas with 21 shots over the course of the game. Haas stepped up to the challenge, collecting a game-high eight saves in 90 minutes of play.
David Dunlop led Greenville with three shots. Cobi Allen and Matt Cowman offered Greenville's shots on goal.
Lio Tovar and Andrew Lynch were Dominican's top scorers, each collecting one goal and one assist. Substitutes Logan Marvin and Ryan Ybarra posted Dominican's first two goals of the game.
Greenville's season ended with a record of 13-7-3, and Dominican (19-2) will host Hope on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the second round.
