Eric Hehman Departs as Head Football Coach

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville College will begin a search for a head football coach after Eric Hehman's resignation to accept the position as head football coach at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.  Hehman, who served as head coach for five years, leaves Greenville as second in its all-time football coaching records for wins, winning percentage, and games coached.  Assistant head coach Ordell Walker has been named interim head coach.

In five seasons, Hehman's squads posted a record of 28-22, including an appearance in the National Christian College Athletic Association Victory Bowl and an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference south division championship in 2009.  Hehman was also the UMAC South coach of the year in 2009.

"I believe God has led me to Malone for two main reasons," said Hehman.  "The first reason is that I believe this is what's best for my family.  We will be five hours between both of our parents.  Family is the highest priority for me, and I believe this will be a blessing to my wife, kids, and parents."

"The second reason is the call on my life.  I believe the Lord has a plan for me, and that is to help develop football programs with Biblical principles in order that the players' and coaches' lives will be transformed for the glory of God.  God has blessed us at Greenville, and now I am feeling led to try to change the culture at Malone."

While at Greenville, Hehman inherited a squad which had just one winning season since 1993.  In just five seasons, three of his teams won six or more games, including the 2009 team which went 7-3.  Even more important than the on-field accomplishments was the community environment that Hehman built upon with his strategic initiatives to recruit students to the program which fit the mission of the institution.

"I believe 100% this is where God wants us, and my goal in life is to do want he wants us to do and be where he wants me to be," said Hehman.  "Leaving is not easy. We are leaving a program that I love, a community that cares, and a church that is dynamic, but I am convinced that this is what God wants for us.  I will always be grateful for our time at Greenville."
