GREENVILLE, Ill. – Greenville College women’s basketball will look to a host of experienced upperclassmen and 13th year head coach Roy Mulholland in their ’11-‘12 campaign.
Last season saw women’s basketball finish with an overall record of 13-12 while compiling a 9-7 mark in SLIAC play. “Last season was a constant grid for us,” commented Mulholland. “Key injuries were something that we had to battle throughout last season and we dropped some important contests that we should have won.”
In 2011-2012 GC will rely on a heavy dose of game-tested women. The Panthers will showcase five ladies that started at least one game for the squad last year, and will return three regular starting mainstays.
Junior center Katelyn Wise will help anchor the post, as she looks to build off of last season’s all-SLIAC selection and her team-leading 10.3 ppg and five rebounds. Senior F/C Julia Hale will also add depth in the middle, providing versatility and athleticism at 6’1.
Junior guard/forward combos Ieisha Adams and Laura Hobbie will again provide viable scoring options, both averaging nearly nine points per contest last season.
In the frontcourt, the Black & Orange’s attack will be facilitated by senior point guard Emmalee Fladland who averaged over three assists and nearly nine points per game as last year’s floor general.
“We are excited to see what this season will bring,” added Mulholland. “We have women that know what it takes to win and have started for several years. Our experience is a huge asset and we will definitely play to our strengths.”
Women’s basketball will kick off the season with a contest against St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday, November 15. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start and will take place in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
