GREENVILLE, Ill.-- 2013 is a year full of opportunity for the GC baseball team, with a strong core of returners that are motivated to succeed this year.
The Greenville College baseball team finished their 2012 season with an overall record of 16-12 (14-9 SLIAC) and ended third in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Standings. They took on Fontbonne University and won 12-9 to earn their spot in in the Semi-Finals of the SLIAC Tournament.
The win gave them a chance to play Webster in hopes of continuing in the Tournament. Unfortunately, the Panthers lost 6-3 to Webster and then fell to Fontbonne in a heartbreaking 6-3 loss that ended their season.
The team has 5 seniors this year that have extra motivation to finish their season strong. After graduating just two seniors last year, Ryan Siddle and David Massengill, the upperclassmen this year will step up and lead the young team. With 15 freshman this year, Coach Lynn Carlson is excited to see what the season has to hold.
Coach Carlson is in his sixth year as head baseball coach at Greenville. In 2010, he passed Greenville Hall of Fame baseball coach Dave Altopp to became Greenville College baseball's all-time leader in wins.
The team will take to their home field on Friday, March 1 in a double-header against Dubuque in their 2013 season-opener. They play at 1:00pm and 3:00pm in hopes of starting their season off with the right way.
