Jim O'Brien joined the Panther football staff in 2014 after completing his education and playing career at NCAA Division II Southwest Oklahoma State.  O'Brien will serve as a graduate assistant coach working with the linebackers and the special teams.

At Southwest Oklahoma, O'Brien was a two-year team captain and team defensive MVP in 2013.  In his senior season, O'Brien recorded 85 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, six sacks, and an interception.  He also blocked a punt.  Before Southwest Oklahoma, he attended San Bernardino Valley Community College where he also served as a two-year captain.  In his sophomore year at San Bernardino, O'Brien recorded 108 tackles and 10 tackles for a loss.  O'Brien also completed a coaching and playing stint professionally in Austria for the Schwaz Hammers.  He coached and played running back, linebacker, and defensive end.

O'Brien attended Rim of the World High School in southern California where he served as a two-year team captain.  He has completed an associate's degree in liberal arts from San Bernardino, a bachelor's degree in communications from Southwest Oklahoma, and a master's degree in park and recreation management.  O’Brien will pursue a master's degree in education at Greenville College.
