Biography

Chris Swift begins his second season as head coach of the men’s soccer program. In his first season in charge, Swift guided the Panthers to a 6-10-4 overall record and 5-3-1 in the SLIAC, qualifying for the SLIAC Conference Tournament. The Panthers placed three members on the All-Conference Team and had four members on the SLIAC All-Academic Team. The program’s GPA has risen to 3.34.

He has accepted an invitation from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) to be an associate staff coach.  The NSCAA is the largest soccer coaches organization in the world.  In the summer 2014, he completed the advanced national course and was offered the invitation. He also completed their level 3 goalkeeping course.

As an associate staff coach, he is able to instruct the introductory level courses.  He is pursuing the NSCAA premier diploma, the highest of the traditional courses that the NSCAA offers with hopes of eventually leading some of the higher level courses as well.

Prior to arriving at Greenville, Swift spent four years as an assistant coach at two NCAA Division I institutions (Eastern Kentucky University and Lamar University). In his one season at EKU, the team finished 10-7-3, posting the first winning record in program history while setting school records for overall wins, conference wins (six), goals, assists, points, and shots. The Colonels went undefeated at home for the first time in program history, posting a home record of 8-0-1. The 2012 also earned a fifth consecutive berth in the OVC Tournament.

The Lamar University soccer program improved all three years that Swift was a member of the coaching staff, culminating in 2011 when the Cardinals enjoyed the most successful season in the five-year history of the program, setting school records for wins (eight) and conference wins (six), while earning the No. 3 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. Six Lady Cardinals earned all-conference honors following the breakout season.

Before arriving at Lamar University, Swift was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Vanguard University of Southern California from 2008-09. Swift played goalkeeper at Vanguard from 2002-06 and recorded 138 saves and four shutouts during his career. He earned his bachelor's degree in history and political science.

Swift also possesses several years of high school and club coaching experience in Southern California, serving as head boys soccer coach at San Juan Hills HS for the 2007-08 season and an assistant boys soccer coach at Aliso Niguel HS from 2002-2007, while also serving as the goalkeepers coach for the LA Legends W-League team in 2009, and as a staff coach at United FC from 2006-09 and Slammers FC from 2004-06.

A 2006 graduate of Vanguard University in California, Swift holds four coaching certifications – NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF "C" License, USSF National Youth License, and NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 3 Diploma.

He and his wife, Marissa, reside in Greenville.
