He has served for 16 years on the Wayne Township School Board in Indianapolis. He has won students' choice awards, Teacher of the Year awards, and been a representative for Wayne Township Classroom Teachers Association. He and his wife Jolene (Ochsner '60) became charter members of the John Wesley Free Methodist Church Indianapolis in 1966 and still worship there.
