The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for students who have a Bachelor's Degree and would like to continue their education in order to teach. Along with a Master of Arts Degree, students become prepared to receive their teaching licensure in the state of Illinois.

Currently the MAT program is being redesigned to meet new state changes. For this reason, we are not able to accept new applications at this time. Please complete the short inquiry form to be informed of the new program changes as they become available.

Program Features

  • Both elementary and secondary certification offered
  • Designed to prepare students to be certified to teach in the State of Illinois
  • Course work schedule is tailored to working adults
  • Courses include state-mandated field experiences in addition to regular course work
  • Student teaching follows course work, field experience, and required Illinois testing
  • Special Education and Middle School Endorsements also available

Format of MAT

  • Locations: Greenville College, Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL; Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, IL; and Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, IL.
  • Convenient times: Attend class one night a week from 6-10pm.  Most classes meet for seven weeks.
  • Convenient to complete: Our accelerated program can be completed in approximately 24 months depending on previous individual course work. This includes a 14 week student teaching experience (Summer classes not required).
  • Students are required to complete field experience hours with each course in order to enrich their experience in the program.
