I chose the education field because I knew I wanted to impact high school and junior high students. I felt education was the easiest way to do this, and of all the subjects, I was best at math. I helped tutor my peers in the subject when i was in high school, and really enjoyed it. I am currently in my second year of teaching at Bond County Unit #2 High School, in Greenville, Illinois.
When I think about it, I really have no idea as to why I choose Greenville college. I wanted to be away from home, but not too far. Greenville, being only two and a half hours from home, put it up for the running in the colleges I was looking at. It was also the smallest, and I thought it would be more welcoming than other places.
Greenville College also has an amazing mathematics department, and that should never be doubted. It challenged and helped with my problem solving skills. The only things that I'm sad about, in regards to Greenville College, is that I couldn't take any other "extra" courses in my department (that I didn't need) because they wouldn't fit into my already full schedule. I also really enjoyed my clinical education coursework as well as writing my honors thesis. Both helped to challenge the way I approached education.
What do I enjoy about my field? I enjoy working with high school students, especially freshmen. The quirks they have and the excitement they bring (at least the excitement that I can rekindle in class) is great. I love the sense of accomplishment that they get when they know they've understand something difficult.
