Job Description:

Full-time professor in the Music Department to oversee the Music Industry area of the new B.S. Music Industry Studies degree.

Key Responsibilities:

Full-time faculty teaching load is at least 12 credit hours per semester.  Other responsibilities include assisting in recruitment of students, student mentoring and advisement, school planning, and regular participation in institutional committee work.  

CONTEXT FOR THE POSITION:  

B.S Music Industry Studies is a new degree in the Music Department beginning Fall of 2017.  This will be made up of three areas:  Music Production, Commercial Music and Music Industry.  We have successfully offered degrees in Audio Engineering and Commercial Music in prior years and now they are being included under the new Music Industry degree along with Music Industry to create a more integrated connection of these interrelated areas.  Greenville College has a long, successful history in the area of Music, and specifically commercially based music (including recording, performance and industry related areas) and this new degree continues that tradition in exciting ways.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or terminal degree in Music or Music Industry or an MFA with Music emphasis, preferred. Additional significant skills in Music Industry-related areas and experience desired.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated:

  • a mix of skills that include music industry, music performance, songwriting or technical skills.
  • leadership experience in working with a production company or record label.
  • skill in developing and implementing strategic plans and assessment measures.
  • skill preferred in Commercial Piano performance.  
  • experience developing and managing budgets in a challenging fiscal environment;
  • commitment to the importance of diversity in the modern academy.
  • a collaborative and collegial spirit and the ability to work across academic disciplines.

Responsibilities include:

  • Instruction and production management of student performance projects for a student-managed production company called Playground Productions.  This person will help students to integrate their knowledge of the music industry as they engineer, perform, record and promote in a variety of venues.
  • In addition, a teaching load that includes courses in Music Industry, such as Studio Production, Mixing Techniques, Sound Reinforcement, Audio Editing Techniques and Concert Production, Independent Artist Practices and Music Industry Operations.
  • Coordinating with the Briner School of Business about courses in the Music Industry major that the School of Business delivers.
