Job Description:

Greenville University is seeking a Director for Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment.  The Director will provide leadership to meet the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan, provide reports focused on analyzing data to promote advancement of the strategic plan, and perform all necessary functions related to the collection, interpretation, & use of institutional data for planning, assessment, & decision making in support of GU’s mission & strategic initiatives.  The Director will facilitate access to information maintained in GU’s administrative/student information systems and disseminate forecast & trend information in a variety of formats to campus administrators & external reporting agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership in the development and implementation of University-wide and unit research and planning activities
  • Utilize innovative strategies to monitor effectiveness of the general education core, learning outcomes, campus climate, program goals and supervisor effectiveness, etc.
  • Provide workshops and other presentations to the college community regarding student outcomes and strategic planning progress and processes.
  • Works closely with appropriate university offices in research & statistical analysis that may be needed for various projects.
  • Serves as resource & provides necessary support for GU’s activities.
  • Develops the operational structure for testing & evaluations.
  • Serves as liaison from GU to various authorities for data reporting, studies, or surveys.
  • Prepares state, federal, & university comprehensive accountability reports & studies.
  • Represents GU at federal, state, & local level meetings, seminars or conferences.
  • Maintains & distributes data, studies, research & reports to support the planning efforts of GU
  • Develops & implements processes for collecting, linking, & analyzing data from a variety of sources including internal systems, state & federal agencies, other higher education institutions, & employers.
  • Monitors the overall integrity of data, complying with state & federal requirements & taking appropriate steps to correct data discrepancies when noted.
  • Works with areas of GU responsible for data input to improve process for collecting & inputting accurate data into the data system.
  • Provides support & training.
  • Assists in the preparation, follow-up, & reports for GU’s accreditation agencies.
  • Administers & oversees the institutional research, planning & assessment office budget & personnel.
  • Provides leadership for the development of university planning systems.
  • Attends university admin. Team meetings & provides guidance to leadership of GU so they can formulate policy and track metrics.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Reports To:

Works under the general supervision of the President & the Provost

Required Skills:

  • Master's degree in a related field such as Higher Education (institutional research), Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field with an emphasis on quantitative methods
  • Knowledge of Institutional Research, its literature, organizations and practices; research design, methods, and analytical strategies and techniques; descriptive and inferential statistics; data reduction and display techniques; survey design and research techniques; statistical packages and relational database management software use; and word processing.
  • Experience using statistical software such as SPSS, or comparable software
  • Experience using enterprise relational databases such as Oracle or SQL & expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience within a higher education setting
  • Significant experience with databases, statistical software, & other high level computer skills
  • Familiarity with web survey administration software & reporting software
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, & communication skills critical
  • Evidence of excellent report-writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience working with data warehouse & reporting systems such as Jenzabar:
  • Experience managing & supervising personnel & budgets.

Education or Certification:

  • Master's degree in a related field such as Higher Education (institutional research), Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field with an emphasis on quantitative methods
