Job Description:

Greenville College is seeking an Assistant Professor of Spanish.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position that will begin August 16, 2013.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach all levels of undergraduate Spanish language, literature, and culture.  He or she will partner with a Spanish Secondary Education specialist to deliver undergraduate majors in Spanish and Spanish Education.  Preference will be shown to candidates with some expertise in Peninsular literature or a Romance Language generalist who could also teach introductory French courses on a periodic basis.  Possibility of leading short-term study-abroad trips.  Additional responsibilities normally expected of a full-time faculty member include advising students; regular participation in efforts of recruitment and retention; committee work; and other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Compensation:

Salary is based on academic preparation and years of relevant experience. The College also provides a generous benefits package that includes health and disability insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

We are seeking a dynamic faculty member committed to Christian Higher Education in a liberal arts context.  This individual should hold a doctorate in Spanish or closely related discipline (consideration will be given to candidates who are in the final stages of their degree program and have a clear plan for completion). The candidate must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, and have a successful record of teaching undergraduates. Candidates must be passionate about teaching and serving students within a Christian academic community.  Greenville College hires faculty members with a vibrant personal Christian faith that animates their commitment to scholarship and their passion for mentoring students.

Language, Literature, & Culture Department:
The College offers a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Spanish Education. The college also offers introductory courses in French to serve students fulfilling B.A. degree requirements.  These foreign language programs are part of the Language, Literature, & Culture Department which also delivers majors and minors in: English Language and Literature; English Education; Journalism and Creative Writing; TESOL; and International and Cross-Cultural Studies.  This position would report directly to the Chair of Language, Literature, & Culture.

School of Arts & Sciences:
Language, Literature, & Culture is a department in the School of Arts & Sciences.  The school’s twelve departments focus on traditional liberal arts undergraduate majors and support a strong college-wide general education program.  The Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences coordinates these majors and programs.
