Job Description:

Greenville University is seeking a dynamic faculty member to become a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor serving our thriving teacher education preparation programs.  The appointment will begin Fall 2017.

We are seeking a potential colleague who

  • Is dedicated to both undergraduate and graduate teaching. 
  • Is committed to serve as a role model for students within an academic community with a distinctively Christian mission. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to liberal arts education.
  • Has an active and vibrant Christian faith.
  • Holds an earned doctorate (ABD considered).
  • Holds advanced degree or has extensive experience in: Reading, Special Education, Middle School, or Early Childhood Education.
  • Holds teacher certification.
  • Has a record of excellent teaching.
  • Has a willingness to work with pre-service teacher candidates.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative, collegial spirit. 
  • Has experience in developing online courses and teaching online.

Key Responsibilities:

The specific teaching assignment for this position will be at the undergraduate level and the successful candidate will be able to assume both generalist and specialized teaching responsibilities in an undergraduate program that certifies K-12 teachers.  The faculty position would consist of teaching courses in the Undergraduate Traditional Elementary Education, and/or Teacher Education Partnership (UTEP), and/or Master of Arts in Education programs. Additional responsibilities normally expected of a full-time faculty member include committee work; advising students; regular participation in efforts of recruitment, retention, and other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. 

THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION: The School of Education (SOE) has more than 300 students enrolled in a traditional undergraduate program, four partnership programs, MAT, and MAE programs.  The school offers majors in elementary education, special education, early childhood education, physical education, music education, and seven additional secondary education programs. The SOE also partners with community colleges and universities that do not offer 4-year teacher education programs to provide the experiences and course work necessary to earn a bachelor's degree and licensure to teach in the State of Illinois. These Undergraduate Teacher Education Partnership (UTEP) programs are offered at Kaskaskia College (Centralia, IL), Lewis and Clark Community College (Godfrey, IL), Lincoln Christian University (Lincoln, IL), and Southwestern Illinois College (Belleville, IL). The SOE was accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education with no weaknesses (using NCATE standards) and serves as a model for other teacher education programs in the state of Illinois. The SOE also has national TEAC accreditation.

Salary is based on academic preparation and years of relevant experience. The University also provides a generous benefits package that includes health and disability insurance.
