Job Description:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment and enrollment of prospective freshman students into the traditional undergrad programs at Greenville College.

This position will assist a prospective student with the admissions process through initial enrollment. Time will be spent working with prospective students from the admissions information session thru initial enrollment as well as developing relationships and promoting and projecting a positive image in the community while generating leads for prospective students. Duties include communicating with students via telephone, email, video conferencing, social media and informational sessions as well as outside representation of the College at businesses, high schools and other higher education venues. This position requires a high out-bound call volume.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the strategies and tactics contained in the Enrollment Management Marketing Plan focused on recruiting new freshman to Greenville College.
  • Coordinate and participate in activities designed to introduce prospective students, parents, and other constituents to Greenville College, including individual campus visits, Preview Days, the Agape Festival, and other special events; often involving weekends.
  • Understand that you are a Greenville College representative and are constantly presenting a public image of the college.
  • Host and interview prospective students on and off campus.
  • Identify prospect pool, follow-up in person or by phone, mail, or e-mail, and encourage prospective students through the application, acceptance, financial aid, deposit, scheduling, and registration processes
  • Maintain consistent phone contact with prospective students and families; this often means attempting 150 phone contacts each week and spending 15 to 20 hours on the phone each week.  Some evening calling is expected each week.
  • This position is responsible for increasing the college’s brand awareness, driving internet traffic, and increasing social media activity within an assigned territory. Admissions counselors are expected to be able to embrace social media technology and be the “personal touch” online and are therefore expected to leverage social networks to strengthen and create relationships with existing prospective student online.
  • Recognize that any activity related to the role and scope of the Admissions Office is a personal responsibility; mature conduct and professional work are expected at all times. This position requires that the person is actively participating in a wide variety of social media activities such as blogging, Facebook communication, social bookmarking, commenting, etc. and is well-connected with the broader social media world. Therefore, Admissions counselors must take care as well to ensure that personal use of social media does not negatively impact the workplace, or the institution.
  • Some travel with some heavy lifting.

Required Skills:

  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both spoken and written; must be able to speak clearly and be understood over the telephone.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively in a challenging, goal-oriented sales environment.
  • Creative and enthusiastic.
  • Computer skills; especially Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • An understanding of how to responsibly utilize Social Media in a work environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage time well on a varying work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education or Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
